Miracles & Challenges

New Beginnings (sunrise captured by Tyler)

I can’t actually believe all that’s occurred in the past short while.  Let’s get real … cancer diagnosis, chemo & brain surgery are not for the faint of heart!

Today things settled into a more normal routine (whatever ‘normal’ is)….Kayla went back to school & I went back to work.  You really do appreciate the littlest things after so much trauma & chaos.  I thought it was so special that all three of us commented on how incredibly beautiful the sunrise was as we drove out of the yard & Ty even took a moment to snap this pic of the gorgeous, fiery pink sky.

It kinda felt like the first day of school as we pulled up to the front doors.  For protective mama bear, it has only been 12 days since ‘my baby’ underwent 5 hour brain surgery.  And I could only imagine the thoughts going thru sweet Kayla’s head.   In typical fashion, Kayla approached it with courage, grace & her 1/2 shaved head held high.  And her friends, classmates and teachers received her with open arms and even a few offers to shave their heads in solidarity :)  My heart sang when I picked her up and saw her approaching the car with a huge smile & a lilt in her step. “I had a great day, mom!”

I’ve received a lot of questions about my health lately so here’s a quick update.  I’ve been on the daily chemo for over a month now and I admit there are some unpleasant side effects that go along with it.  However, for the most part I’m able to carry on reasonably well and am able to manage the pain fairly effectively.  I did have a rough couple of days upon returning home from the hospital – I think my body just crashed after being on high alert for so long.  Thankfully I’m feeling much better now.

I cannot say enough about much it means to me and my family to be so surrounded by so much love & support – I seriously do not know how I would have maneuvered the past month without everyone reaching out with your words, prayers & many acts of service.  There have been days when I have felt carried when it was just too much to bear.  I am so humbled and grateful.

Every day, I am faced with challenges….and some of them have been massive.

And every day, I am in awe of the miracles that surface before me….for many of them have also been immense.

We’re making the most of every day over here….hope you are too.  Carpe Diem!

  4. Angel Shannon,

Yes … over here in the Crawford house we are carpe diem-ing it up ….. and I will tell you why. It is your inspiration. When we began our Autumn journey together in K-Chix I set the intention to utilize every ounce of teaching you have provided me in previous years and current days. I am saying big YES’s … knowing that you are saying big YES’s too !! And not a day passes that I do not live a little more juicy, knowing that you are living a little more juicy in the midst of rocky terrain !! I told you in September that travelling this path with you was like going to “school with the most magical teacher” …. I am learning, as you are teaching. I hold you in my heart every moment.

    All my love,
    Michelle

  5. Shannon, Kayla and Tyler — so glad life is slowly getting back to normal. Kayla — I know all your school pals must have been so happy to see you. I love what Michelle said in her post just now. Aha non, you may not know it, but you have changed lives over here in the Shaw/Wreggitt home, too. I think of my life as before meeting Shannon and after meeting Shannon. You will always shine on… There is no other choice!

    • And the biggest thank you to YOU, dear Becky for standing in and writing my blog so beautifully while we journeyed through the hospital days. I am so grateful you were able to publish such great entries out of the daily garble I provided you with :) Big love & gratitude!! PS So looking forward to following your blog!

Shannon and kids, What an eloquent post. Your grace is as visible and breathtaking as the wonderful sunrise picture. So happy to hear Kayla is back to school, and you are back to work. You are an inspiration. Keep shining! Love Diana and crew.

  7. Good morning to you all. I know the day takes on a different color when we wear gratitude glasses on.
You and the kids have always had a pair you wear frequently. Paddison and I always have felt we have something special others miss and that is our view of the moon or early sunrise on our way to the rink in the mornings. The animals and the quiet we get, while the world sleeps. All that you experience is molded into what we see everyday but then really see it for the first time. Grace your way today. Love us

  8. Chad Cieslik says:

Kayla, like your Mother you are truly a fighting spirit, you are an inspiration to so many. May the road to complete recovery be as smooth as a freshly paved highway.
Tyler thank you for the beautiful sunrise shot. It truly was an awesome site this morning as i watched it come over the lake here back home.
Shannon my dear friend, what can i say that hasn’t been said already. You are the spiritual leader to all of us. You not only talk the talk but walk the walk. Your courage and strength flows from you like a beacon of light that all of us are drawn too. Wishing you nothing but Happier days from this day on. Hugs Papa Butterfly

  9. Shelley Wright says:

I am honored to support such an open and loving family. I feel a strong sense of Spirit in my life and am open to the idea that what is happening within me is really what is happening around me. There is a calm within me that knows that all will be well. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and journey – it is uplifting for us all. However when the beauty around you seems dull please let us know as that is when it is our turn to reciprocate the love! Hugs to all

  10. Dear Shannon,
I can’t believe what you, Kayla and Tyler have undergone since I say you at the swim meet in Calgary a few weeks ago. It just goes to show how much can change in such a short time, and that we have to make the most of every minute. The most influential advice I received from the minister that married me, 24 years ago, was when I ran into him during a rough time during my separation. He compared the life cycle to a chart or graph where you can physically see the highs and lows we experience. He said we can’t appreciate the highs without the lows- and the visual exercise has helped me more than once.
The other most powerful visual was from you – when you hypnotized me and the soul sisters through the “future self” scenario. It showed me in a contented space, greek style villa, in long flowing, comfortable clothes. It gives me peace to visualize this, and I know you have a lovely future self video which will bring you peace also, as you experience all these challenges. Lots of love and thankfulness, Sandra Epp

  11. I continue to be in awe and so inspired by your family, your strength, passion and tremendous attitudes! Shannon, your voice and smile and perspective are a deep breath of fresh air.
    Love to all

What a beautiful sunrise that shows the Lords beauty in the midst of a struggle. I am thankful that you are back to work and your precious daughter was welcomed back to school with loving friends and staff. You are much loved my friend. I have some beads to send up for your bracelets. I will get them off shortly. I will pray over them with a friend of mine sharing a special blessing for you and Kayla for healing and hope and a constant encoragement of the Lords presence.

  13. Melody Williamson says:

    Helloooooooo Shannon, Kayla, and Tyler,
What a day!! The sun is shining, the snow is sparkling, and then I read your latest news!!!! Shannon, you are a true Carpe Diem Dynamo and you’ve passed it on to Kayla and Tyler!! So happy for all of you and so inspired, yet again, to appreciate the extraordinary in the ordinary!!! Shine on !!

    Love,
    Melody

  14. Andrea Palmer says:

Shannon, you have such extraordinary grace, strength and courage under immensely difficult circumstances. You have inspired me to live my life more fully by honouring each day and moment as it comes, instead of collapsing under sorrow and despair when life does not work out as planned. These days I am setting this intention every day anew, and I think of you as an example of how to ride the waves of life. I wish you and your equally amazingly strong daughter Kayla continued healing, lightness of being and all blessings possible.

  15. Hi Shannon,
I don’t know you well. Met you at a Stars event but I was moved and compelled to include you in a meditation workshop i was in over the weekend. We were asked to include people we wanted to send healing light and prayers to and you came to me! All good!!
    Blessings and love,
    Kaveri

  16. Nancy Jacklin says:

Shannon, Kayla, and Ty: So great to see Kayla today looking radiant, healthy, and happy. You are all in our thoughts every day. Love to you all.

  17. Wow, my dear friend Shannon, your strength and tenacity never cease to amaze me! I have chosen to make many changes in my life over the years because of you. The latest ones are that I hug my boys a little more often/longer/tighter and make their bedtime backrubs better! Everyone is so blessed by your inspirational story!
    Love you always,
    Rebecca
